News Release
(April 11, 2012 – West Vancouver, BC) – To mark the inauguration of President Ma Ying-Jeou of Taiwan on May 20, 2012, West Vancouver artist Michelle Lan has created a special painting, working with MP John Weston to enable his constituents and other Canadians to participate in sending congratulations. The painting will be given to President Ma in Taiwan at the inauguration, accompanied by signature books bearing personal greetings provided by Canadian well-wishers.
“The friendships between the peoples of Canada and Taiwan reflects the values we have in common,” said Ms. Lan. “I’ve lived on the North Shore for 20 years and I appreciate the way Canada has opened its doors to people of Taiwan background.”
“Michelle has done a wonderful thing, creating an original work that embodies the friendship between the people of Taiwan and Canada,” said Weston, who lived in Taiwan for 10 years; speaks Mandarin; and knows President Ma personally.
People who want to sign the Congratulations Book for President Ma may do so at Park Royal South, in West Vancouver, next to the Guest Services Desk, from 12-4pm on Friday, 13th April and from 11-3pm on Saturday. Or by visiting Weston’s North Shore Office (Suite 21, 285 – 17th Street, West Vancouver); or by email (westoj@parl.gc.ca).
